I haven’t touched this blog since March. Hard to believe it’s been that long, and at the same time it makes sense. About a week after my last post, my life as I knew it essentially imploded on itself. Big time.
Whilst trying to pick up the pieces, I’m sorry to say that much like this neglected blog, fitness and health took a little bit more of a back seat than I would like to admit.
<< 8 months forward>>
I can honestly say that I am steadily rising from those ashes.
And I’m SO READY to get healthy again.
And to jump start this renewed endeavor, I’m doing something different: I’m doing the 3 Day Refresh!
A Snarky Overview of Cleanses
“Cleanse” has become somewhat of a dirty word in the past few years. And mostly for good reason — the idea that you can eat like crap and abuse your body and then go on a crash starvation diet to lose 10-20 lbs is totally unhealthy. Been there. Done that.
No really. I have. Please don’t think I’m saying this from some ivory tower of judgement. I’m saying this as someone who in her not-so-bright-younger-past:
–spent 7 full days nauseous on lemon juice and maple syrup with cayenne.
–actually managed to force down salt water for a “flush” (to my credit, I only did that once… okay it was twice.)
–spent $300+ on a high powered blender that could tear through enough kale smoothies to fuel a vegan commune for a decade, only to throw in the towel on the EVENING OF DAY 3 for a Tostito’s chip.
Yes, historically I have been the queen of the stupid-to-borderline-dangerous dieting. And I do NOT support or endorse any of those aforementioned methods.
All of those examples, however, were fueled by a desire to lose weight and be a certain size for a special event. Hence the extreme and break-neck nature (and stupidity of the techniques).
It’s amazing how quickly we can throw out any sort of base-line knowledge or self-preservation during times of desperation, huh?
That being said, when you dig yourself into a nutritional hole of awfulness, giving your body a break for a couple days WHILE STILL EATING HEALTHY FOOD can be very beneficial. And that is definitely something I can get behind.
Powerless & Run Down
In the past 8 months, I spent an exorbitant amount of time stressed the eff out. As a result, I’ve gotten away from consistent clean eating to where I actually have sugar cravings (gah!), have to consume 3+ cups of coffee (often espresso) as well as energy drinks to keep myself going throughout the day.
My digestion is garbage and honestly, while we’re not the negativity train, I freakin’ hate the way my clothes look.
Worse, when I’ve tried to “restart” my healthy habits, I’ve felt powerless against these overwhelming cravings, and completely beat down by midafternoon. It’s hard to workout after work when you’re too tired to do anything by 4pm.
I have to do something to get myself back to a healthy mindset, and kick the sugar cravings.
I’m doing the 3 Day Refresh!
According to Team Beachbody…
“The 3 Day Refresh is a 3-day program of Shakeology, high-protein shakes, and digestive drinks, supplemented with an array of fresh fruits, vegetables, and healthy fats to keep your energy up while your weight goes down. And the best part is, you’re never hungry.”
Since this is my first time doing the Refresh from start to finish, those claims remain to be seen. But let’s be clear:
I’m not doing this to be a certain size…
Or to fit in a certain outfit…
This isn’t about a special event…
Yes, the 3 Day Refresh does say that people can lose 3-7 lbs and 1-3 inches off their waists. But honestly, at this point, that would all be bonus.
This is about feeling like my body
and I are on the same team again.
Don’t you think that would be awesome? If you think so too and want to join me, I’m happy to help! Follow me on Facebook and shoot me a message! (Social Media is definitely the best way to contact)
The first 6 people to sign up to do the 3 Day Refresh with me will get a special thank you gift for being part of this incredible journey!
